Reserving parking in Ghent

Parking on moving day

How to apply (until 31 December 2026)

Apply online for a permit to occupy public space for a delivery or move via innames.stad.gent (log in with itsme or eID). Until 31 December 2026, you provide and put up the no-parking signs yourself (for hire from a rental centre or signage company) at least 48 hours before the start; then you report the number plates of cars already parked there via the online form. The permit (by email, before the start date) states which signs to put up.

When to applyOn the parking lane: at least 15 days before the start; (partly) outside the parking lane (road, cycle path, pavement): at least 26 days. Signs must be up at least 48 hours in advance.
CostThe permit is free: occupying public space for a move or delivery is exempt from tax until 1 January 2027. Sign rental: at your own cost, with the rental company.

Limits and furniture liftA furniture lift may stand on the pavement, a parking space or the road with a permit (26-day notice outside the parking lane). Extension online at least 7 days before the end date. A skip or container needs a separate permit (temporary work zone, container…), with the same notice periods, and is taxed except for the first day.

From 1 January 2027

New rules already published by the city, for occupations from that date.

Apply online for a permit to occupy public space for a delivery or move via innames.stad.gent (log in with itsme or eID). For occupations starting after 1 January 2027, the City of Ghent puts up the E1 (no parking) and E3 (no stopping or parking) signs itself: you no longer need to do anything for these signs. If your permit includes other traffic signs, you remain responsible for them.

When to applyOn the parking lane: at least 15 days before the start; (partly) outside the parking lane (road, cycle path, pavement): at least 26 days (the city has not announced different notice periods for 2027).
CostOne-day occupation: no tax (consecutive permits are added together). More than one day: tax per permit = days × m² × €0.58 × nuisance factor (1 to 4) + €11 per parking space taken per day, with a minimum of €52 (2027 rates). Free cancellation: notify at least 4 working days before the start.

How it works

  1. 1
    Describe your move, once

Route, floors, furniture, options and, if you like, up to 15 photos (rooms and access): about 3 minutes.

  2. 2
    Confirm your e-mail

One click on the link we e-mail you confirms your request. It is checked, then passed to a mover.

  3. 3
One verified mover receives your request

They have 2 hours to accept it (counted between 8 am and 9 pm). A request confirmed between 9 pm and 8 am is passed to a mover from 8 am. If they decline or do not reply, your request goes to the next mover.

  4. 4
You receive their quote through Movzo

They send it within 5 hours (same hours). You accept or decline it; if it does not suit you, you can ask once for another mover.

  5. 5
You deal directly with the mover

Quote accepted: you receive their contact details and they receive yours. You agree and pay directly with them, then you leave a review after the move.
